WATCH | Boiler tube leaks the biggest blackout contributor

JOHANNESBURG - Boiler tube leaks, not sabotage, caused the current Stage 6 power cuts.

Electricity Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, during his briefing on Sunday, said 9 units went out of service over two days due to boiler tube leaks.

Ramokgopa says Eskom is currently working with the boiler tube manufacturers to get the units back up and running as soon as possible.

At the same time, he says they have gone back to the courts to ensure that institutions like schools, hospitals and police stations have uninterrupted supplies of electricity.

Ramokgopa says they are not going to cut corners in their efforts to end blackouts and added that a number of generating units will return to service on Monday
