JOHANNESBURG - President Cyril Ramaphosa has appointed Gwede Mantashe, the Minister of Mineral and Petroleum Resources, as the Acting Minister of Police.
He will be keeping the seat warm for just two weeks until Professor Firoz Cachalia assumes the post in August.
Crime Expert and UJ Research Associate, Calvin Rafadi, has warned it would be problematic if he appointed a new head of the special policing unit the HAWKS.
He raised concerns about Mantashe's historical political posture.
