CAPE TOWN - The Democratic Alliance (DA) is calling for an independent inquiry into alleged corruption and political interference within the SAPS task team investigating political killings.

This follows explosive allegations by KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, who raised serious concerns about meddling by political and criminal elements.

The DA is also pushing for lifestyle audits on all senior SAPS officials in an effort to restore public trust.

The party’s deputy spokesperson on police, Lisa Schickerling, says when corruption is ignored, it grows adding that justice must take its course in South Africa.
