STELLENBOSCH - Crime intelligence has intercepted illegal firearms believed to be destined for the Western Cape, in what police are calling a breakthrough against gun smuggling.
Two men were arrested in Meyersdal, Gauteng, during the operation.

While authorities are confident they’ve dealt a major blow to a gun-running syndicate, concerns remain about organised crime networks whose operations may span multiple provinces.
Criminologist Dr Guy Lamb says a strong focus should now be placed on tracing the sources of the firearms. He adds that if police have clear evidence of possession, they stand a better chance of securing convictions.
