Ekurhuleni Council | Irregularities in electricity billing

POTCHEFSTROOM, NW  - The City of Ekurhuleni’s revenue collection and billing systems are facing initense scrutiny. 

This after the metro reported a staggering R2 billion shortfall in the first quarter of the current financial year.

Between July and September 2024, the municipality’s books were rocked by irregularities in electricity billing and suspected manipulation of account data - raising red flags about governance, transparency, and service delivery.

Professor Theo Venter, a governance expert from North West University unpacked the implications for accountability in local government.
