JOHANNESBURG - The issue of hijacked buildings was brought into sharp focus last year by a horrific fire that broke out in Marshalltown, leaving over 70 people dead.

Last week the Johannesburg High Court rejected an application for the eviction of illegal occupants in two buildings. The court said there was no imminent danger to the building.

Illegal occupiers have been a constant headache to authorities in Johannesburg who have to provide alternative accommodation.
