JOHANNESBURG - There’s been a spike in the number of buildings catching fire in the Johannesburg CBD with the latest incident occurring this week.

In August, over 70 people lost their lives when a hijacked building caught fire. This has raised questions over the safety of the buildings. Are the owners complying with regulations? Are inspectors doing what’s expected of them? MMC for Public Safety Dr Mgcini Tshwaku unpacks this.
