JOHANNESBURG - The South African Students Congress (SASCO) is calling for the immediate removal of Higher Education Minister Nobuhle Nkabane following allegations of corruption and the illegal appointment of the SETA board.
SASCO becomes the third organisation this week after the EFF and the DA to demand the Minister’s dismissal.
The organisation’s president, Alungile Kamtshe, says they reached out to the Minister ahead of their public call and that she was aware of their intentions.
He added that if the Minister had any honour, she would resign, even though a replacement has not yet been identified.
“If this week passes without the Minister being removed, we are going to put pressure by mobilising students,” Kamtshe said.
He also said SASCO had previously raised concerns in writing to ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula in April, and expressed disappointment that the party’s leadership had not acted.
Kamtshe further stressed that the organisation is placing pressure on government around the NSFAS crisis, highlighting ongoing challenges with its board and leadership.
