Blackouts, rising costs sink Astral's profits

JOHANNESBURG - The cost of producing a chicken is now R2 per kilogram higher than the selling price.

That is the word from the country’s largest poultry producer Astral Foods.

It warns that the company’s half-year profit could plunge by up to 90% as it struggles to cover soaring feed costs and costs related to power cuts.
