JOHANNESBURG - South Africans will have to pay more to use national roads from 1 March.

The National Roads Agency announced a 6.25 percent increase which was gazetted earlier this month.

Sanral says it's in line with inflation, and slightly lower than last year's hike of 6.58 percent.

We take a look at the price increases of some of the toll gates for a light motor vehicle:N1 Hugenot Tunnel in the Western Cape's toll will increase from R47.50 to R50.50.

The N1 Kranskop will increase from R53.50 to R57 and the N3 Tugela toll price will increase from R88 to R94.

Sanral says toll revenue is necessary to maintain, operate and improve roads, and to service its debt.

But this will have an knock-on effect on consumers as it will increase logistic costs.
