SA consumers could be able to choose their own electricity provider in 5 years

JOHANNESBURG - In five-years' time, South Africans will be able to choose an electricity provider.

The Solidarity Research Institute says its cautiously optimistic about the Electricity Regulation Amendment Bill.

It gives impetus to the unbundling of Eskom and ends the utility's monopoly on energy generation.

The National Transmission Company has already been given powers to buy electricity.
