President Cyril Ramaphosa is asking the Western Cape High Court to review and set aside the Phala Phala independent panel report. The panel found that he may have a case to answer over the theft of US$580,000 from his game farm in February 2020. His legal team argues that impeachment-level misconduct requires deliberate action and bad faith, and says the panel did not properly test that requirement against each charge.

Cape Town says it has become the first South African city to secure electricity directly on the open market at rates below Eskom’s tariffs. Two 20-year power purchase agreements will provide 70 megawatts of solar electricity from Atlantis and Philippi. The city says the contracts could save between 19% and 21% while supporting a wider plan to source up to 200 megawatts of independent power.
