JOHANNESBURG - The cut-off low that brought disruptive rain to parts of the Western Cape and Northern Cape has moved further north and east, with thunderstorms, rain and strong winds expected in several provinces.
The South African Weather Service says the system has shifted towards the Northern Cape, where thunderstorms and heavy rain are expected.
The system is also expected to move east towards the Eastern Cape, bringing strong winds, thunderstorms and showers into Wednesday.
While warmer conditions have returned to much of the northern parts of the country following the last cold snap, another brief spell of colder weather is expected.
The weather service’s Tokelo Chiloane says the cold will not be as severe as the previous cold spell, with warmer conditions expected as spring takes hold.
The weather service is also warning of a heightened risk of veld fires in North West and Limpopo due to dry conditions and strong winds.
In Limpopo, the Lephalale area is a particular concern, with little rainfall expected and strong winds potentially worsening fire conditions.

“It won’t be as cold as expected,” says Chiloane.
“There is still going to be occasional rainfall over the coastal province, but nothing significant at this stage,” she adds.
