AKA, Tibz murder trial gets off to a delayed start in Durban

DURBAN - The murder trial of slain South African hip-hop star Kiernan “AKA” Forbes and his close friend, Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane, hit a snag on Monday morning at the KwaZulu-Natal High Court in Durban.

The trial was due to begin at 9am, with all seven accused expected to appear together. However, two of the accused had not arrived at court by the time proceedings were due to begin.

Accused numbers six and seven were still being transported from Westville Prison.

There were also problems with the lifts in the court building, where the matter is being heard in a regional courtroom on the 12th floor.

The case was stood down until 11.30am.

The seven accused face a string of serious charges, including conspiracy to commit murder, two counts of murder, attempted murder, and firearms- and ammunition-related offences.

Speaking to eNCA outside court, Motsoane’s father, Sylvester, said the start of the trial coincided with the anniversary of his wife’s death on 5 October 2023.

“That’s why I decided that maybe my son and wife are watching over me to see if I’m following this case. I had to come here just to honour this day,” he said.
