DA open to coalition talks - Hill-Lewis

JOHANNESBURG - Democratic Alliance leader Geordin Hill-Lewis says the party is open to coalitions with other political parties.

The DA is calling on political parties to help it rebuild municipalities nationwide.

Hill-Lewis says the party is determined to improve service delivery in failing municipalities.

"We will approach the next few weeks with respect for the mandates those parties have received from their voters," he says.

"We know that these cities desperately need a period of long and sustained progress under the honest and integrity-driven government," he adds.

The party has amassed a leading number of votes in many of the country's metros and municipalities.

However, as seat allocation gets underway, a different picture is emerging that could change the trajectory of many municipalities.

The party is open to talks with 'like-minded' people. It says even an alliance with the Economic Freedom Fighters is a possibility.

"We have already reached out to many parties over the last 24 hours and we will continue," says Hill-Lewis.
