JOHANNESBURG - Deputy National Police Commissioner Tebello Mosikili said they cannot accept the Democratic Alliance's R500,000 cash reward offer.
According to Mosikili, they do not know what the party's intentions are and cannot be involved in political matters.
"This is a state issue," said Mosikili. She said it has never happened that a political party involve itself in state matters in this way.
Ekurhuleni mayoral candidate Khathutshelo Rasilingwane announced on Wednesday that the party would offer a cash reward for information regarding the various bodies found in the metro over two months.

Acting National Police Commissioner Puleng Dimpane announced that they are offering a R400,000 cash reward for information on the murders.
The DA said they would add to the cash amount, bringing it to R900,000.
"I don't know what they are combining, but it cannot be combined," said Mosikili.

"It has never been done before," she added.
The Deputy Police Commissioner said only the state can proclaim cash rewards in this manner.
According to Kempton Park's Colonel Obed Mashalane anyone, of any age, with information of a crime can come forward to the police or contact the crime stop number 10111.
Informants of such crimes can choose to remain anonymous.

Once a person linked to the crime/s, is arrested and successfully convicted. The claim will go before a committee who will decide on the pay-out.
The total amount of money covers information for all murders and can be split amongst various informants.
The police are continuing the call for people to come forward after a half-naked woman covered in a sheet was discovered in Dawn Park, Boskburg on Thursday.
This brings the told number of deaths in the East Rand to nine since July.
Four bodies were discovered, on different days, at Rhodesfield, Kempton. The information came to light after the body of jogger Elizabeth Moselakgomo was found there. Hers was the fourth body.
On Monday, a fifth body was found in Olifantsfontein. On Tuesday, the sixth body was found dumped outside a clinic in KwaThema. It was later reported that a body had been found in a stream in Clayville, Tembisa on 7 September, bringing the number to seven.

An eighth body was announced by Acting Police Minister Firoz Cachalia that was also discovered in Olifantsfontein. On Thursday, a body was discovered at the Villa Liza municipal stands in Dawn Park in Boksburg.
Rasilingwane said the money will not be given to the police. However, it is to augment calls for people to come forward.

"The party will only give the money on a successful prosecution," said Rasilingwane.
She said the DA is only doing this because they care about women in Ekurhuleni and South Africa at large.

The information will still need to be sent to the police to investigate, the DA will not be accepting tip-off themselves, she said.
