State centralises Fannie Nkosi's cases

PRETORIA - The legal woes of suspended Organised Crime Unit member, Sergeant Fannie Nkosi, continue to mount.

The state now intends to centralise his charges to include a case from Thohoyandou.

He appeared briefly in the Pretoria North magistrate’s court in connection to firearms, ammunition and police dockets found during a raid at his home.

Nkosi’s public unravelling began when he was called to testify before the Madlanga Commission.

He faced fierce cross-examination regarding his extensive links to a notorious criminal network dubbed the Big Five.

Evidence leaders painted him as the middleman and a kickback peddler, facilitating corrupt interactions between high-ranking police officials, municipal executives, and organised crime figures.

The commission exposed documented interactions and financial exchanges between Nkosi and alleged criminal kingpin Vusimuzi 'Cat' Matlala.

He's now transitioned from being a key witness at the commission to a high-profile accused.

In April, he was arrested after a raid at his home and is facing charges of theft and the unlawful possession of ammunition, an explosive and failing to secure firearms.

He's also facing fresh charges from a 2022 narcotics and weapons case in Limpopo, where Nkosi allegedly impersonated himself as a top official to retrieve evidence.

Nkosi has also appointed a new lawyer.

He remains in custody ahead of his High Court bail appeal, while investigators continue to untangle his ties to the Big 5 cartel.

The case will be back in court on 22 July.
