UPDATE: Two of four accused in Reiger Park shooting denied bail

JOHANNESBURG - Two of the four accused in the killing of four people in Reiger Park, including two Anti-Gang Unit officers, have been denied bail.

Regan Collis and his co-accused, Jamal Meyer, were denied bail, while the other two accused, Alvino Crawford and Mcfoolen Ford, were each released on R5,000 bail.

The four appeared in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.

The court found that Collis and Meyer had failed to demonstrate why they should be released on bail.

In Collis’s case, the court cited his pending cases and evidence that he had threatened witnesses in one of those matters. In Meyer’s case, the court said there was prima facie evidence linking him to the alleged offences.

The two Anti-Gang Unit officers were part of a crime-prevention team patrolling the area when they were allegedly ambushed.

In the chaos that followed, two women who were not involved in the confrontation were caught in the crossfire and killed.

The accused have denied any involvement in the killings. They have presented alibis as part of their defence, maintaining that they were elsewhere when the shooting took place.
