The Committee will decide whether President Cyril Ramaphosa should be impeached or not. They are tasked with processing the 2022 Section 89 independent panel report on Ramaphosa's Phala Phala saga.
At the time, the National Assembly voted against the adoption of the report. In May, the Constitutional Court ruled that the vote was unconstitutional.

The matter, therefore, had to be returned to the National Assembly. A 31-person impeachment committee was set up and had its first meeting on Monday.
The first order of business was to elect a chairperson to steer the ship.
"The work has just begun," he said upon taking up his new role.

"I slept on it and then I ran on it this morning," he said on Tuesday. Gana said that to him, it is a huge responsibility that requires a cool head.
"This is the first committee of its kind," he said.

"I accept the responsibility with both hands," he said.
Gana said he is guided by the Constitution and that the Committee will be guided by the rules as agreed to by Parliament.
The transparency will also allow members of the Committee to participate fully without bias.
