Bafana Bafana makes it to Afcon knockout round
In a nail-biting match, South Africa beat Zimbabwe 3-2 to secure their spot in the AFCON knock out phase.
This comes after Oswim Appolis converted a late penalty to give South Africa the qualification. Rising star Tshepang Moremi gave South Africa an early lead with a deflected effort.
South Africa began the second period aggressively and regained the lead on 50 minutes through Burnley striker Lyle Foster, for whom it was a second goal of the tournament.
Zimbabwe brought it back to 2-2 on 73 minutes when Aubrey Modiba conceded an own goal, but Appollis then netted from an 82nd-minute penalty to give Bafana the lead for the third time, which they retained.
SANDF soldiers swept away
Limpopo police have opened an inquest into the circumstances, that led to the drowning of a SANDF member in Polokwane.
The body of the female soldier was found in a stream on Thursday.

The deceased reported had been travelling with two others and was swept away after their car got stuck under a bridge. The other two occupants managed to drag themselves to safety.
This come after another SANDF soldier drowned near the Macadamia Military Base in Komatipoort. A military vehicle he was travelling in attempted to cross a river that was heavily flooded.
The member was swept away by strong currents. One body was recovered.
Probe into minors allegedly drinking alcohol
The Eastern Cape Social Development is probing an incident in which several children are seen consuming alcohol.
The video sparked outrage when minors can be seen consuming alcohol in the presence of adults.

Social Development MEC Bukiwe Fanta says the behaviour is unacceptable and poses serious risks to the health and well-being of young people.
Saulsville mass shooter linked to crimes in Polokwane
A suspect has confessed to his role in the Saulsville mass shooting.
The suspect faces 12 murder charges. he has since appeared in court and the matter has been postponed to 23 February 2026.

Gauteng Police Commissioner Tommy Mthombeni said the suspect was arrested on 21 December and appeared in Polokwane for possession of an unlicenced firearm.
Mthombeni says the firearm that was confiscated has been linked to the 12 murders and 13 attempted murders.
All hands on deck for influx at SA borders
The Border Management Authority (BMA) is expecting thousands of people, to travel through the Beitbridge Border Post back to South Africa.

Commissioner Michael Masiapato is expected to lead an inspection team to assess readiness and also observe movements.
