DA, EFF, ActionSA walkout of Ekurhuleni Council after mayor, acting MM no-show

GERMISTON - The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality council sitting collapsed on Thursday.

The Democratic Alliance (DA), Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) and ActionSA have walked out due to the fact that the mayor Nkosindiphile Xhakaza and Acting City Manager Tsholofelo Koopedi were not present.

The Council met to discuss the court cases of suspended Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) Deputy Chief Julius Mkhwanazi and City Manager Kagiso Lerutla.

The pair appeared at the Boksburg Magistrate Court where they are out on R30,000 bail each.

They both face allegations of fraud, corruption and defeating the ends of justice stemming from the Madlanga Commission testimony.

The Inquiry has raised questions about accountability in the metro.
