JOHANNESBURG - Motorists have been warned to brace for another painful hit at the pumps, with fuel prices set to climb sharply from Wednesday, 2 September.
Petrol will increase by R1.34 a litre, while diesel prices will jump by as much as R3.15 a litre.
The steep increases are being driven largely by higher international oil prices, according to the Mineral and Petroleum Resources Department.
Diesel users are facing an additional squeeze, with global supply constraints continuing to push prices higher.

The situation has been compounded by Russia’s ban on fuel exports, adding further pressure to international supplies.
The latest price adjustment also includes an increase in the retail margin paid to fuel stations.
The department says this is intended to accommodate rising wage costs for fuel station workers. A higher slate levy is also contributing to the increase.
Analysts warn that the higher fuel prices could feed into the broader cost of goods and services, making an already difficult economic environment even tougher.
