PRETORIA - For Tshepang Nyathi’s family, the pain of losing their 21-year-old loved one is still fresh.
Nyathi's family and friends laid him to rest on Wednesday following his fatal stabbing during Spring Day celebrations. Nyathi was allegedly stabbed after water was splashed on a man who did not want to take part in the celebrations
Xolani Sekgomani, Nyathi’s uncle, said the family is still struggling to come to terms with his death.
He described the manner in which his nephew lost his life as devastating.
"He was killed like a dog," he told mourners.
Sekgomani, further stated that was Nyathi a "hustler who worked hard" and was always trying to make a better life for himself.
The family is also saddened by comments being made on social media. Sekgomani said the hurtful comments are adding to the family’s pain during an already difficult time.
The tragedy has also left members of the community deeply saddened.

A community member said young people should continue enjoying Spring Day, but they should celebrate responsibly and play with their own peers, rather than involving people who may not want to participate.
The resident said the Spring Day tradition should not necessarily be stopped, but young people need to be mindful of others and avoid confrontations.
As Nyathi’s friends and loved ones mourn his passing, his family hopes his death will remind young people to celebrate responsibly and respect others.
For the family, a day that was meant to bring joy has instead left them grieving a young man they say had so much more life ahead of him
The man accused of killing Nyathi has abandoned his bail application and remains in custody.
