Khan's legal team breaks silence after Padayachee's murder

JOHANNESBURG - Hours before his death, Preggy Padayachee warned disgraced former Deputy Head of Crime Intelligence Feroz Khan that his upcoming Madlanga Commission testimony would "ruffle some feathers."

Padayachee was shot and killed in Ekurhuleni on Monday night, while one passenger remains hospitalised in serious condition and a third walked away unharmed.

Now, following Padayachee's fatal shooting, Khan’s legal team has broken their silence.

Speaking exclusively to eNCA, Muhammed Vally expressed grave concerns over their client's safety.

According to Vally, Padayachee was a close relative of Khan.

“We now see that there's a family member that has been shot. So, the concern, I think, is a legitimate concern and it's an ongoing concern,”

Vally said they had engaged with the Madlanga Commission and would work with it to address their concerns.

Khan was meant to testify before the Madlanga Commission on Tuesday, with proceedings expected to be conducted remotely.

However, his testimony was postponed following the death of his uncle-in-law.

Vally added that Khan was not in the right condition to proceed with the testimony in the aftermath of the shooting.

“I believe that they accepted that there were sufficient grounds to permit the postponement. They will obviously keep the public posted, as they have this morning through their public release, and we can take a lead from them in due course.

Adding to Vally, Kylen Ghirao said this is a difficult time but are hoping for investigations to ‘unmask the perpetrators’
