KZN police to hold briefing on Sharnick's criminal record

PRETORIA - KwaZulu-Natal police are set to shed light on investigations flagged at the Madlanga Commission.

This includes businessman Stuart Scharnick, who has filed perjury and defamation charges against Crime Intelligence boss Lieutenant General Dumisani Khumalo.

He accuses Khumalo of defamation, saying the general spread false claims about him.

The general had claimed that Scharnick was suspended, Deputy Police Commissioner Shadrack Sibiya's bodyguard.

He also noted that Scharnick sat behind Sibiya at the Police Ad Hoc Committee in Parliament.

Khumalo alleged Sibiya was seen behind the wheel of Scharnick’s bakkie.

The businessman reportedly faced 34 criminal charges, including hijacking. He says that 18 of the charges ended in convictions, 11 were withdrawn, and the rest led to acquittals.

In an exclusive eNCA interview, Scharnick rejected all the allegations. He denied being Sibiya’s bodyguard, insisting they were just acquaintances.

On Wednesday, while opening cases at Pretoria Central Police Station, Scharnick went further, insisting he and the deputy commissioner shared no special connection.
