Mapisa-Nqakula to continue testimony in corruption trial

JOHANNESBURG - Former Defence Minister Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula is back in the North Gauteng High Court, where she is expected to continue testifying in her defence in her corruption trial.

The State is expected to question Mapisa-Nqakula on each of the 12 corruption charges she faces, as well as one count of money laundering.

Her return to the witness stand follows the court’s dismissal of her application to have the charges against her struck off.

Mapisa-Nqakula had previously taken a break from the trial due to ill health.

She has denied allegations that she solicited or received payments from defence contractor Nombasa Ntsondwa-Ndhlovu.

The State alleges that payments were made to Mapisa-Nqakula during her time as Speaker of the National Assembly. She has consistently denied any wrongdoing.
