CAPE TOWN - The Western Cape High Court is set to hear a legal challenge to Parliament’s Section 89 Impeachment Committee’s decision to withdraw its recommendation of Advocate Griffiths Madonsela as evidence leader.
The application was brought by the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) and the African Legal Professionals Association, which are challenging the committee’s decision.
The committee withdrew its recommendation following objections from President Cyril Ramaphosa to Madonsela’s appointment, citing concerns about a possible conflict of interest.
The committee is opposing the application and remains confident that the court will rule in its favour.
Committee chairperson Makashule Gana is expected to attend the two-day proceedings.
