JOHANNESBURG - The man at the centre of an alleged R16-million fleet procurement scandal at Emfuleni Municipality is back in the Vanderbijlpark Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
Mpho Malema is expected to apply for bail, two weeks after his arrest.
Malema is accused of being contracted by Emfuleni Municipality in 2022 to supply 18 vehicles, including municipal trucks.
But investigators allege that while the municipality paid the full R16-million, only seven vehicles were delivered.

Former Emfuleni fleet manager Lerato Selaelo Mpholo is also facing criminal charges.
He is accused of facilitating the tender process and allegedly receiving financial kickbacks.
The case forms part of an investigation into the March murder of Emfuleni financial clerk and whistleblower Martha Rantsofu.
Rantsofu was killed after allegedly exposing corruption at the municipality.
