CAPE TOWN - A year after public hearings began, Parliament’s SAPS Ad Hoc Committee is turning its attention to its findings and recommendations.
The committee is meeting to finalise its investigation into allegations of political interference and the alleged criminal capture of the criminal justice system.
The process began exactly a year ago, when MPs started public hearings, with KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi becoming the first witness to testify.

The committee was established following Mkhwanazi’s explosive media briefing on 6 July, when he raised allegations of political interference and concerns about the functioning of the criminal justice system.
Now, after months of hearings and deliberations, the committee is in the final stretch.
MPs have 19 pages left to work through in their nearly 700-page draft report before finalising their findings and recommendations.
The committee’s report is due to be submitted by 30 October.
