Tembisa Hospital corruption masterminds will be unmasked - Lesufi

JOHANNESBURG - People looking to bribe officials are feeling the heat, says Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi.

This comes after a Hawks officer and Tembisa Hospital official were arrested on corruption charges.

It is alleged that the pair tried to bribe an investigator with R100, 000 to derail a case linked to the hospital.

The officer reported the approach, triggering a sting operation authorised by the NPA.

The sergeant and the hospital official were arrested after handing over the cash.

Acting Hawks head, Lieutenant General Siphosihle Nkosi, has praised the investigator’s integrity and promises that corruption within the unit will be rooted out.

Nkosi adds that probes into wrongdoing at Tembisa Hospital will continue without fear or favour.

"We now have to identify culprits," says Lesufi.

'It is just unfortunate that law enforcement agencies will say it takes long, I am impatient myself," he adds.

The Gauteng Premier says he wrote to President Cyril Ramaphosa after receiving a report on Tembisa Hospital's corruption, that something be done about it.

According to Lesufi, those who know they will be arrested are voluntarily coming forward with information. A 'syndicate X' has been cracked and there will be arrests of the masterminds of the corruption at the hospital.

'We want our intervention in Tembisa Hospital to be exemplary,' says Lesufi.
