JOHANNESBURG - A fundraising campaign supporting the family of murdered runner Elizabeth “Tsontso” Moselakgomo has raised more than R84,000, surpassing its original target of R50,000.
The authorised BackaBuddy campaign, launched on Monday, had raised R84,533 by Wednesday morning.
According to a post on the campaign page, the funds will support Moselakgomo’s eight-year-old daughter and her family.
The 38-year-old went missing last week after going for a run. Her family positively identified her body at the Germiston mortuary on Monday.

Moselakgomo is one of eight women whose deaths are being investigated in Ekurhuleni. Seasoned investigators have been brought in to help track down those responsible after the bodies of eight women were discovered in the area over the past two months.
“We may not have known Elizabeth personally, but sometimes a story touches you and you simply want to help,” the fundraising organisers said in a statement.
“We will be making contact with Elizabeth’s family directly, and funds raised will be used to support them through the difficult weeks and months ahead, particularly the needs of her young daughter.
“No donation can undo what has happened, but together we can help carry a small part of the burden this family now faces.”

Moselakgomo’s running club, Vitality, has also expressed its condolences and said it would contribute to the family.
In a post on X, Discovery Vitality South Africa CEO Dinesh Govender said he was “saddened and horrified” by Moselakgomo’s death.
“Our thoughts are with her daughter, and the rest of her family and community, including her Team Vitality running friends,” Govender said.
“Discovery Vitality will be making a contribution to support.”
