KUGOMPO CITY - An attorney accused of defrauding the Road Accident Fund (RAF) of approximately R5.2million has been denied bail by the KuGompo Magistrates’ Court in the Eastern Cape on Friday.
Precious Muleya faces charges of fraud, alternating theft relating to claims allegedly submitted on behalf of at least 12 beneficiaries.
According to Eastern Cape National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Luxolo Tyali, Muleya, who is a Zimbabwean national, was arrested at OR Tambo International Airport on 30 September.

He said at the time, Muleya had been arriving from the United Kingdom and had allegedly been evading arrest.
During the bail application, Tyali said the state argued Muleya was a flight risk, had no established family ties or property in South Africa and had the means to leave the country.
This was despite an affidavit filed by Muleya, who argued that she had returned to South Africa permanently to reopen her law firm and that she had a child who lives in the country, he added.
This saw the court deny her bail.

According to Tyali, Muleya was an admitted attorney of the High Court and practised as Precious Muleya Attorneys.
The crimes were allegedly committed between 29 August 2019 and 19 February 2021 with claims reportedly lodged on behalf of road accident victims from areas including KuGompo, Centane, Butterworth, KwaBhaca, Mdantsane and Estcourt in KwaZulu-Natal.
The matter was postponed to 11 November 2026 for Muleya’s first appearance in the KuGompo Specialised Commercial Crimes Court.
