Eskom announces lower stages of power cuts

JOHANNESBURG - Slight reprieve from blackouts this weekend.

Stage 2 power cuts will continue until 5 am Saturday.

It will then be suspended until 4 pm when stage 2 will once again resume.

The pattern will continue on Sunday, with lower stages in the evening.

This is due to the recovery of additional generation capacity and adequate emergency reserves.

Eskom's also anticipating lower weekend electricity demand.

An update for the week ahead will be given on Sunday.

A total of 2,000-440MW of generating capacity is planned to be returned to service by Sunday.
