Nelson Chamisa calls for national dialogue

HARARE - Former Zimbabwean opposition leader, Nelson Chamisa, believes the country can talk itself out of crisis.

He is calling for a national dialogue with Zanu-PF and President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

He has received the backing of over 80 civic organisations.

Nelson Chamisa says a national dialogue can end the suffering of millions of Zimbabweans.

He hopes talks to end the political stalemate and economic crisis will see the return of millions who have fled.

The Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition welcomes the dialogue but wants more stakeholders to participate.

However standing in his way is the Zanu-PF aligned Federation of Non governmental Organisations.

Fongo says Chamisa must first recognise the legitimacy of Mnangagwa's Presidency.

That would mean accepting that the recent elections were free and fair and thereby endorsing the outcome.

Mnangagwa has been in power since 2017, since overthrowing former President Robert Mugabe.
