Operation Shanela | Police crack down on crime in Joburg CBD

JOHANNESBURG - A day after the latest crime stats painted yet another grim picture, police hit the streets of downtown Joburg.

Officers arrested suspects for various crimes and apprehended undocumented immigrants.

Acting Gauteng Police Commissioner Tommy Mthombeni said 54 illegal immigrants were arrested during the operation.

"One will say we are continuing as we are in this space for Operation Shanela or we are shanye-ling going forward in Gauteng," he said.
