Police arrest 7 allegedly linked to abduction of a student

 

JOHANNESBURG - Seven suspects of an apparent kidnapping ring have been arrested by police in Johannesburg.

Police took them into custody yesterday in connection with the abduction of a Wits University student.

The student was lured by suspects through the dating app “Grindr”,
Who are then alleged to have demanded R30,000 from his family. Police found him bound and unconscious at a men's hostel in Denver.  
The suspects been linked to at least 85 cases targeting the LGBTQI+ community for ransom payments. They face charges of kidnapping and extortion.
