Ramokgopa to assess fire damage at Grootvlei

JOHANNESBURG - Electricity Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa will visit Grootvlei to assess the damage caused by Saturday's fire.

During his weekly update on the implementation of the energy action plan, the minister raised concerns over regular fires at Eskom power stations.

"We've had an incident in Grootvleit unit 2, a fire incident, I've been in contact with the GM, the executive responsible for generation at Eskom Bheki Nxumalo, just to get a sense of the extent of the damage," Ramokgopa said.

"I'll be going to Grootvlei just to get it first hand, not just a written explanation, technical reports but also just visual observation on the extent and the degree of the damage so that when I stand before the public, I'm comfortable about the timelines we are giving on returning that unit."
