Restore the power grid | Ramokgopa slams local municipalities

PRETORIA - Electricity Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa is slamming municipalities for not doing their jobs.

He says by-laws are not being enforced to ensure residents are not illegally connected.

Ramokgopa says this overloads the grid, causing a surge in demand, which trigger rolling blackouts.

South Africans have had no reprieve from rolling blackouts and this past week has seen the country plunged back in to Stage 4 power cuts.

According to Ramokgopa, this is just part of the Eskom's planned maintenance programme.

The minister says municipalities need to pull up their socks.

Ramokgopa says President Cyril Ramaphosa convened the presidential coordinating committee to strategise on how illegal connections will be resolved.

A key resolution is to ensure legal connectivity to electricity supply.
