Restore the power grid | SA to sign memorandum of cooperation with China

JOHANNESBURG - Could China prove to be the solution to the country’s electricity crisis?

Electricity Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa will sign a joint memorandum of cooperation with eight Chinese entities.

This is part of efforts to strengthen partnerships to advance energy security and transition.

The signing will happen on the sidelines of the 15th Brics Summit, a day after Chinese president Xi Jinping's state visit.

For over a decade, South Africa has been faced with an energy crisis, prompting President Cyril Ramaphosa to declare a state of disaster and appoint a minister responsible for electricity.

The memorandum comes at a time when planned blackouts are continuing in the country.
