BOKSBURG - Mathipandile Sotheni's lawyer has argued that Marius van der Merwe, also known as Witness D, had become a target due to his work on cases involving illegal mining and the murder of Emmanuel Mbense.
The murder case linked to slain the Madlanga Commission witness continues to raise questions around organised crime.

Meanwhile, the defence is pushing back against claims about Sotheni's firearm training.
His lawyer argued that the state is trying to portray him as dangerous because of his training and the ammunition he was found with.
