PRETORIA - North West businessman Suliman Carrim has once again failed to appear before the Madlanga Commission.
Carrim has again cited health reasons for his inability to appear before the Commission. It is understood that he has been admitted to a medical facility.
We take a look at the events and explanations that have delayed Carrim’s appearances.
Health delays
This is not the first time Carrim has cited his health as a reason for being unable to answer allegations against him.

In April, almost a month after appearing before the Commission, Carrim was rushed to hospital after experiencing what he believed at the time was a heart attack while at a gym.
His legal team later confirmed that he had not suffered a heart attack.
Legal delays
In February, Carrim approached the High Court in Johannesburg seeking to interdict a subpoena compelling him to appear before the Commission.
After multiple delays, during which his lawyers argued that he had not been given sufficient time to review the allegations against him, Carrim eventually testified in March.

Denial
Carrim testified before the Commission on 9 and 10 March, where he denied all allegations levelled against him.
KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi and Witness X implicated Carrim during their testimony before the Commission.
Alleged chat messages linked him to Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala, Brown Mogotsi and Julius Mkhwanazi.
He was also accused of receiving money in exchange for sensitive police information.
Carrim denied the allegations, saying he had invested R10 million in Matlala’s company, Medicare24.
According to Carrim, Matlala delayed repaying the investment and eventually paid only R1.75 million to his company, Tameez.
He further alleged that Matlala asked him to advance R750,000 to Maumela.

Carrim said he paid R500,000 to Maumela, who instructed him to make the payment to Luthaga Trading Enterprise.
In March, Carrim requested a postponement to consult his finance team regarding payments that had allegedly been made without his authorisation.
