Lily Mine victims’ relatives demand answers from NPA

PRETORIA - ActionSA leader Herman Mashaba led a picket outside the NPA headquarters over delays in prosecuting those responsible for the 2016 Lily Mine tragedy. 

Joined by relatives of the three deceased -- Solomon Nyirenda, Pretty Nkambule and Yvonne Mnisi --the picketers wanted the NPA to explain why the mining company, police and the mineral resources department have yet to be criminally prosecuted as per the October court ruling.

The deceased's remains are still trapped underground.

Mashaba, who was asked by the families to intervene, says he’s spent close to R4-million in legal fees trying to get those responsible to account.
