NSFAS lekgotla underway this weekend

JOHANNESBURG - The National Student Financial Aid Scheme is looking at ways to deal with challenges in the higher education sector.

The entity’s board is currently hosting a Lekgotla in Johannesburg, to provide a platform for sector stakeholders to develop a plan in response to the challenges affecting the scheme.
They are also discussing problems with the new direct payment system.

There have been numerous delays in student appeals, and approval of accommodation. Students took to the streets demonstrating against the new funding system.

Earlier this week, Higher Education Minister Blade Nzimande addressed issues with the scheme, says it is not in crisis.

While he admits there might be glitches within the system, Nzimande insists this doesn’t mean the scheme is unstable.
