Parts of M1 closed following late night shootout

JOHANNESBURG - Its reported that the M1 between Booysens and Xavier is closed in both directions after a late night shootout with police that left one suspect dead.

The shootout followed an earlier cash in transit robbery on the N17 in Springs.

Five suspects inside a vehicle were spotted by highway patrol vehicle on the M1 south near Booysens.

Two of the suspects were arrested,one was shot dead, while two managed to escape.

Three assault rifles, cellphones and empty cash bags were recovered from the scene.
