Restore the power grid | Nersa approves transfer of Eskom powers to NTC

JOHANNESBURG - The unbundling of struggling power supplier Eskom is gaining momentum.

Energy regulator Nersa has approved the transfer of the utility's powers and duties to the National Transmission Company.

Last year, Nersa approved the license needed for the transmission company to operate independently.

It's also sanctioned the issuance of a cost recovery letter to the NTC for section 34 IPP projects.

The regulator says the NTC's license will be amended to designate the company as the buyer.

Nersa describes this as a significant step in the unbundling process and transformation of the electricity supply industry.
