Service Delivery | Government concerned about lack of infrastructure maintenance

JOHANNESBURG - Municipal infrastructure maintenance came under scrutiny at this year's National Local Government Service Delivery Indaba.

Government has raised concerns about the state of local government and the lack of infrastructure maintenance.

Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Deputy Minister, Parks Tau, says a new approach is needed to ensure uninterrupted service delivery.

"As COGTA we concede and recognise the state of our municipalities as highlighted by reports such as the State of Local Government Report. These reports paint an unideal picture of the challenges inherent in our communities and municipalities," said Tau.

"Particularly concerning is the maintenance and lack thereof of infrastructure from roads to water to waste water treatment plants, solid waste treatment and other essential services," he said.
