New centre sorts out waste pickers

JOHANNESBURG - You see them every morning, the guys with the flatbed trolleys pushing mounds of recyclable waste.

Well, waste reclaimers play an integral part in recycling efforts.

But, they struggled for three years to be incorporated into the City of Joburg.

They then formed the African Reclaimers Organisation and have now set up a sorting centre in Selby.

Pickers now have a safe space to sort out waste.
