JOHANNESBURG - The ANC will know on Wednesday whether its bid to have the IEC accept its disputed candidate lists has succeeded.
The party took the Electoral Commission to court, arguing that a technical problem with its online system prevented candidate lists for six municipalities from being properly submitted.
The IEC disputes this, saying the ANC failed to complete the final submission process.
The ANC says it complied with the requirements to submit its candidate lists, but that the IEC’s online system failed to properly capture and process them.
The party says the issue affects six municipalities in KwaZulu-Natal, the Free State and Eastern Cape.
ANC lawyer Daniel Burger says the party completed the required forms, uploaded supporting documents and paid the necessary deposits.
The IEC has rejected the ANC’s version of events, arguing that there were no glitches that prevented the party from completing the submission process.
The Electoral Court thanked both legal teams for their submissions, with the judge describing the matter as difficult.
Judgment has been reserved and will be handed down on Wednesday.
