Ombud Professor Malegapuru Makgoba has made shocking findings about conditions at the institution, including that it is filthy and unsafe.

Denosa Gauteng's secretary, Bongani Mazibuko, says changes need to be made urgently for the sake of the patients.

"We feel vindicated because most of these issues are issues that we have been raising in the past. If you look at some of the recommendations that have been made by the ombudsman, they are in line with our Positive Practice Environment guidelines campaign that we launched as far back as 2014."

"It's about time and hopefully with the recommendations from the ombudsman the Department will take them seriously."
