Transnet strike continues as no agreement reached

The South African Transport and Allied Workers Union has rejected a new wage offer by Transnet.

JOHANNESBURG - Transnet workers are standing by their demands for a wage increase of between 12 and 13 percent.

They have not been working since last week.

Transnet is only offering an increase of between 3 and 4 percent.

Billions of rands and thousands of jobs are on the line as no agreement has yet been reached.

Satawu has rejected the latest offer of between 4.25 and 5 percent.

SAFTU general secretary, Zwelinzima earlier said they’re in solidarity with striking Transnet workers.

Vavi says Saftu rejects, in the strongest form, the 3 percent wage offer made by government.

Meanwhile, the unions have agreed to rules of picketing at the CCMA.
